The Real Top 10 Geek Christmas Gifts - 2007

Are you tried of all those crap Top 10 Geek gift lists that have a bunch of stuff that is kinda neat, but nothing that real geeks really want? I mean come on, just cause we are geeks doesn't mean that we all want Star Wars underwear or a shirt that says "im in ur gamez takn ur lifz". We are grown ups here (well kinda) we want cool stuff! So I have made a list of items that almost any geek would be proud to get, and I really wish I had gotten to this sooner, I could have saved a few more geek Christmases. If you have any good ideas, let me know in the comments and I'll throw them up on the list!

For each item I have linked to an awesome version of whatever the gift idea is, but if there aren't variations on an item, then I just linked right to it. Hopefully this list will at least spur some ideas in your head (im in ur head givn u ideaz), because you are almost out of time!

Also, in the interest of full disclosure, most of these links are affiliate links, so if you have a problem with that, then please just go straight to the sites and use this list for info only! I swear I am only here to help you guys. :-)

10) Blu-Ray/HD-DVD Player (LG BH200 Blu-Ray/HD-DVD)- I'm not talking about one or the other, I'm talking about both. Yep, LG makes a combo player. Does your geek want to be an early adopter, but doesn't want to be left out in the cold, then this is the way to make sure that your geek can play all the movies on their HDTV.

9) A nice pair of headphones (Bose QuietComfort 2 Headphones) - Most geeks need peace and quiet as they work, and by peace and quiet I mean blaring rock music so that they can't hear the guy in the cube next to them talking to their wife about their sick child's excretions. A nice pair of headphones will both wow them and calm them down. What is better than a stress-free geek?

8) X-Box 360, PS3, or a Wii - Most likely your geek already has one, but if they don't, then they are probably talking about one of them. If they want the Wii, then I am sorry, but you are SOL this year. But maybe next one! Unless of course you want to pay 8 bajillion dollars for a Wii with 30 games. Someone out there in corporate America is always willing to rip you off.

7) Digital SLR Camera (Nikon D80) - I don't know why geeks like to take pictures so much...well, actually they probably don't. But we do love gadgets, and a sweet digital SLR definitely qualifies. If your geek is already into photography, then this is an even better gift.

6) iPod (iPod Touch) - If they don't already have a portable music player....aw, who am I kidding? If they don't have a portable music player already then they probably don't want one! But the iPod touch is the latest and greatest, and boy is it sleek looking.

5) iPhone - Who doesn't want their iPod and phone to be one? Crazy people, that is who. The only problem with this gift is that you have to sign up for a service agreement as well, but isn't your geek worth it?

4) Portable GPS (Navigon 7100) - Yeah yeah, I know, your geek probably already has one. But does it have live traffic? Will it give him restaurant reviews? Will it make him a Mocha? Well, maybe not that last one. But if your geek has a GPS that has a bit of age, why not find him one that has all kinds of features that only a geek would want!

3) Sweet remote control (Harmony 1000 remote) - Geeks always have a million pieces of AV equipment, it just comes with the territory. So you need something to control it all. Well the only thing that this can't control is the space shuttle, but I think Logitech is working on that. If you don't like the square shape of the 1000 then go for the 890, it is still a truly awesome controller.

2) A big ass monitor (Dell 24-inch Widescreen LCD) - Who doesn't want a big ass monitor? I can't think of anyone, much less any geek, who doesn't want a larger monitor (or two, or three!), and here is one that fits the bill while not emptying your pockets (too much). Let your geek do work (or play games) with plenty of screen real estate.

1) HD Television (Toshiba Regza 42-inch LCD TV) - A big HD television is a great gift for any geek. Just remember, no plasma! LCD, DLP, SXRD, LCoS, anything, just not Plasma. They are great looking, but you'll get burn in really easily playing video games. Don't let them fool you and tell you the problem is solved, cause it isn't, it really really isn't. I learned that one the hard way! Ouch!

So, there is your list of gifts that almost any geek would be happy to receive. Now, if you really think your geek wants a cool t-shirt, then here is one you can check out.
